You can run through the entire game in under four hours (a one hour improvement over Cauldron's last History Channel game), but the game can ultimately be condensed down to one hour on account of the repetitive tasks you're given.

The Civil War was marked by discussions over the nature of government's proper role (if any) in economics, bitterly dealt with the right to secede, and marked the beginnings of more involved, welfare-oriented federalism. Secret Missions is a fairly straight-forward shooter, and if you’ve played either of the Medal of Honor: Heroes games, you’ll know what to expect. Nothing to be desired here, 2 thumbs up. By making the second option more effective, the game penalizes you for taking time to setup that one good shot; it's better just to wildly fire when you see a flash of red on the screen. I always heard about the major points of all the epic battles (Gettysburg, Pickets charge, etc) but this game showed me those not so glorified (secret) missions that were just as important as the main battle that took place. However, nothing happened, and the mission just seemed to be stuck. The History Channel's Civil War: Secret missions is their second Civil War video game. Civil War: Secert Missions is the third game made by the History Channel and well its not the best one.

After so many History Channel-based games, one would think that developer Cauldron might want to spread some creative wings and think outside a TV-themed box. Secret Missions' may be a war game, but rarely do you play with a squad of more than three members. There is a gatling gun and naval mission.

At no point would anyone learn a viable history lesson. Before each mission, you’re presented with a short History Channel, documentary snippet that lends insight into the mission you’re about to undertake. What makes them more of a burden than a benefit – besides their terrible accuracy – is how they determine the checkpoints. What a fun game! That said, as you progress through the game, you move up in rank, and your ability to hit targets from long distances seems to improve. Another problem we encountered was in setting off an explosive.
