However, as the season progressed, the Kings … On March 3, 2005, the Monarchs traded Tangela Smith and a 2006 second round draft pick to the Charlotte Sting in exchange for former Stanford University standout Nicole Powell, Olympia Scott-Richardson, and Erin Buescher. Draft Rights to Harry Giles, the #20 pick in the First Round of the 2017 NBA Draft, were acquired by the Sacramento Kings from the Portland Trail Blazers on June 22, 2017. The Kings drafted Jason Williams in the 1998 NBA draft, signed Vlade Divac, and traded for Chris Webber prior to the lockout-shortened season of 1998–99. The former NBA Rookie of the Year was selected as an All-Star six times while making the All-NBA Second Team three times. The word "CINCINNATI" was featured above the logo while the word "ROYALS" was below. The Kings lost to the Utah Jazz 123–117 in their season opener on October 17, 2018. In 2008 the Monarchs were markedly less strong, but hung around the Western Playoff picture all season and finished with the #4 seed. One accomplishment the team achieved under St. Jean during their tenures was a playoff appearance in 1996. Though not as exciting or flashy as they had been in previous years with Williams, the team became much more effective and disciplined with Bibby at the helm. But the Royals were now a losing team filled with rookies, and did not turn a profit. This made the Kings the first team in the state in four years. Toronto took two steps back when Kawhi exited, but still flourished, nearly every player on the roster improving to compensate for a loss they couldn't totally overcome. The initial Rochester Royals logo featured a blue and white shield with the word "ROCHESTER" on the top, with a white banner with the word "ROYALS" on it.
